Moral Creatures
Some say that if human beings were moral creatures we wouldn't need laws.
That's stupid.
Sure, we wouldn't need some laws. Like, we wouldn't need a prohibition against murder.
But laws also set reasonable expectations for social behavior.
For example, two people who have each other's best interest in mind can still end up driving on the wrong side of the freeway and collide head on.
The real truth is that if human beings were moral creatures, we wouldn't need economics.
