Do We Need To Vote?

One of the biggest problems in civic education is the focus on extrinsic activities.  

For example, we don't need everyone to vote.  Seriously, we don't. 

We need everyone to have an absolute and well-protected right to vote.

We need everyone to understand the FULL ramifications of their choice to vote or not.  The full ramifications; not just their own assumptions and biases. 

We need them to do their homework, and know who and what they're voting (or not voting) for.  

We need them to be educated, ethical, and willing to take full responsibility for their decision.  

We need them to decide one way or the other in good faith for the betterment of all.  

But at the end of the day, success in civics isn't defined by the actual number of voters, and the path to success is far more nuanced than "Everyone has to vote".
